If you’re already up to speed on the basics of crampon and ice axe use (or maybe you’ve been on our Intro course?), this is the course for you.

Now you know how to move around the winter mountains, it’s time to build on those skills. We’ll go for three days of big mountain journeys, visiting some stunning summits, and getting you up to speed on some more advanced skills so that you can be a fully fledged independent winter mountaineer.

By the end of the course you can expect to:

Understand weather and avalanche forecasts, using them to inform the planning of your own winter walks; Know what kit to take on the hills in winter, and how to use it; Move efficiently over the mountains in winter, using walking axe and crampons; Have an awareness of risk of avalanche and avoidance from real-time observations; Navigate effectively in winter conditions be ready for a lifetime of independent winter adventures!
