Exploring the mountains in winter can offer the most rewarding of days and a sense of achievement in potentially more challenging conditions. If you’re a keen summer scrambler, looking to tackle some steeper winter adventures, this is the course for you!

We’ll spend 3 days getting you into steeper ground, showing you the basic skills needed for travelling through this terrain and then having time to practice and refine them under the watchful eye of a Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor.

  • Understanding weather and avalanche forecasts, and it’s impact on our route planning
  • Introduction of winter kit and clothing
  • Movement skills on steep ground upto grade I/II
  • Use of techincal axes, crampons and other equipment in ascent and descent
  • Mountaineering ropework, including snow anchors, rock anchors and abseiling
  • Awareness of risk of avalanche and avoidance
  • Considerations for navigating in winter
